Past And Present NMU Skiers Named To U.s. Olympic Team

PARK CITY, Utah â€Â“ The U.S. Ski andSnowboard Association, the national governing body for Olympic skiing andsnowboarding, has announced the 2006 U.S. Olympic Team.  A group of 17 crosscountry skiers will travel to Torino.  The menâ€Â™s team will consist of sevenskiers while the womenâ€Â™s team will have 10.

 

Four skiers with connections to Northern Michigan University have been named to the team:  former skiers Chris Cook and Abigail Larsonalong with current NMU skiers Lindsey Weier and Lindsay Williams.  Weier was amember of the 2002 Olympic Team.  For Cook, Larson and Williams this will betheir first Olympic experience. 

 

A â€ÂœMeet the Olympic Wildcatsâ€Â will take place in theVandament Arena at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19.  The event will consist of ashort program followed by an opportunity to meet and get autographs from,Weier, Williams and members of the NMU cross country ski team, head coach StenFjeldheim and assistant coach Jenny Ryan.  The event is free and open to thepublic.
