MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ Bernie Anderson, the headfootball coach at Northern Michigan University, announces another addition tohis coaching staff.  Tom Wender will join the staff as the linebackers coach. Ã¢Ã‚€Ã‚œHis energy and knowledge will be a great benefit and asset to the program,â€Â Anderson said.  â€ÂœHe is also well connected in the U.P.â€ÂÃƒ‚  Wender will also assist withsummer camps and recruit the U.P. and Wisconsin.


He spent the 2005 season at Saginaw Valley State University as the special teams coordinator/outside linebackers coach.  Wender spent 21seasons (1984-04) at Iron Mountain High School, where he was the head footballcoach.  He compiled an overall record of 170-55 with the Mountaineers.  Wenderled his teams to 15 playoff appearances, 11 Mid-Peninsula Conferencechampionships, three state finals appearances and two state titles in 1993 and2000.  He retired after the 2004 season.  â€ÂœI am very excited about joining theprogram and going back to my alma mater,â€Â Wender said.  â€ÂœI am also excitedabout the staff that Bernie has put together.â€Â


Wender is a 1968 graduate of Kingsford High School andearned his bachelorâ€Â™s degree in industrial arts from Northern Michigan University in 1972.
