OXFORD, Ohio â€Â“ The Wildcats could notpull the come-from-behind trick two nights in a row. After scoring two goalsin the third period on Friday night to win the game against the Redhawks,Saturday was a different story as the home team scored two goals in each periodfor the 6-3 win. Northern Michigan University is now 11-10-1 overall on theseason and 7-8-1 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). Miami improves to 14-3-3 and 11-2-1 respectively.
The RedHawks struck first with a goal at 4:43 of the firstperiod by Matt Davis. Mike Santorelli tied the game with a power-play goal at7:23 for his eighth of the season. Jamie Milam and Nathan Oystrick assisted onthe goal. The RedHawks made the score 2-1 when Davis scored his second goal ofthe night at 15:58.
Joe Cooper gave the home team the 3-1 lead when he scoredhis third goal of the season at 8:23 of the second period. Oystrick cut thelead to 3-2 with his fifth goal of the campaign at 17:20. Darin Olverassisted. Miami then took the 4-2 lead with another power-play goal by RyanJones at 17:57.
Davis scored the first goal of the third period for the hattrick. His goal was at 1:09 of the period to give the RedHawks the 5-2 lead. Dusty Collins gave the â€Â˜Cats new life at 5-3 with a power-play goal at 5:51 forhis third of the season. Zach Tarkir and Dirk Southern assisted. Davis then scored his fourth of the night at 17:23 for the final margin.
Bill Zaniboni after turning away 40 plus shots on Fridaynight had 34 on Saturday. Jeff Zatkoff, from Miami, had 23 saves. Each teamscored two power-play goals on seven opportunities.ÂÂ
