SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. â€Â“ The Wildcats keep rollingalong in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).  OnThursday night the Northern Michigan University menâ€Â™s basketball team won itsfourth conference game of the season to stay perfect with a 67-56 win over theLake Superior State Lakers.  The â€Â˜Cats are 4-0 in the GLIAC and 7-5 overall onthe season.  LSSU is now 0-5 and 1-11 respectively.


LSSU had the early lead of 4-3 just minutes into the game. Over the next five plus minutes the â€Â˜Cats went on a 14-4 run to take the 17-8lead.  NMU never lost the lead after that point in the game.  Jake Suardinimade a three-pointer at 8:43 as NMU had their biggest lead of the half at30-15.  NMU shot 40.6 percent for the half from the floor (13-32).  The NMUdefense held the Lakers to 26.5 percent from the floor (9-34).  The â€Â˜Cats madeseven of their 10 three-pointers for the game in the first half. 


LSSU cut the â€Â˜Cats double-digit lead down to a single digitat 14:13 and the score 42-38.  Over the next five minutes the â€Â˜Cats respondedwith a 9-1 run.  Marco Volcy capped the run with a basket as he ended the nightwith 14 points.  He needs four points for 1,000 career points.  The â€Â˜Cats nevergave up the double-digit lead the rest of the way.


NMU ended the night shooting 47.4 percent from the floor(27-57) and 41.7 percent from the three-point line (10-24).  The â€Â˜Cats shot 75percent from the free throw line as the team took four trips to the line andsank three.  Rebounds were even at 37.  The Lakers had 17 offensive boards onthe night.


Will Washington led the way with 17 points and sixassists. Ã‚  Ricky Volcy added 11 points and three blocks.  M. Volcy added ninerebounds.  Ryan Kuhl, from LSSU, had a game-high 24 points. Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚   


NMU will be at home on Saturday (Jan. 7) against Grand Valley State University.
