'Cats Just Needed Two Goals For The Win

 

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University hockey team ended its six-game road swing with a big victory on Saturdaynight at Ferris State University.  The â€Â˜Cats went 3-3-0 on the road swing.  NMUwith goals in the first and third periods were all they needed for the 2-1 winover the Bulldogs.  The â€Â˜Cats are now back at .500 for the season at 8-8-0 and5-7-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).  FSU falls to 8-6-4and 4-4-4 respectively.

 

Matt Siddall with his second goal of the season at 12:36 ofthe first period gave the â€Â˜Cats the 1-0 lead.  Pat Bateman and Mike Santorelliassisted.  The lead lasted for over a period until Matt Stefanishion tied thegame with his ninth goal of the season at 3:20 of the third period.  Less thanseven minutes later, Nathan Oystrick, knocked home the game-winner at 10:02. Jamie Milam and Geoff Waugh assisted.

 

Bill Zaniboni came up big tonight with 34 saves to pick uphis sixth win of the season.  Mitch Oâ€Â™Keefe turned away 29 shots.  Once againNMU was denied on the power play by going 0-7.  The â€Â˜Cats have now gone fourgames without a power-play goal.  FSUâ€Â™s lone goal was scored on the power playas the Bulldogs had eight chances.   The Bulldogs had the 35-31 shot advantageon the night.

 

NMU will be at home next weekend for the first time in overa month.  The â€Â˜Cats will be hosting the Western Michigan University Broncosnext Saturday (Dec. 17 at 7:35 p.m.) and Sunday (Dec. 18 at 2:05 p.m.). Sundayâ€Â™s game will be on College Sports Television (CSTV).
