BIG RAPIDS, Mich. â€Â“  Ã‚ The Northern Michigan University hockey team played its fifth straight game on the road on Friday night. The â€Â˜Cats struck first, but they could not hold onto the lead as the FerrisState University Bulldogs took a 5-3 decision.  Entering the game the â€Â˜Catswere 7-1-0 when scoring first in a game this season.  Ã‚ With the win theBulldogs are now 8-5-4 overall and 4-3-4 in the Central Collegiate HockeyAssociation (CCHA).  The â€Â˜Cats on the other hand are now 7-8-0 and 4-7-0respectively.


Pat Bateman struck first for the â€Â˜Cats with his fourth goalof the season at 10:10 of the first period.  Mike Santorelli and NathanOystrick assisted.  The Bulldogs would strike twice in the period to take the2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.  Matt Verdone tied the game at 11:56 on apower-play goal before teammate Jeremy Scherlinck gave the Bulldogs the lead at17:18.


The second period saw each team score twice.  Andrew Contoistied the score at two-all with his sixth goal of the season at 6:50.  ZachTarkir and Matt Maunu assisted on the goal.  The home team took the lead again(3-2) at 11:24 when Matt Stefanishion scored a power-play maker.  Dusty Collinsscoring his second goal of the season tied the game at three-all at 18:23.  JamieMilam assisted.  The tie would not last long as FSU took the lead for good at19:15 when Greg Rallo scored his 10th goal of the season.  


NMU had seven shots for the third period as the Bulldogs hadfour.  But the home team did the only scoring in the period with an empty-netgoal at 19:46 by Mark Bomersback.  For the game NMU had 28 shots as the hometeam tallied 26.


Derek Janzen had 21 saves for the â€Â˜Cats on the night.  MitchOâ€Â™Keefe picked up the win with a 25-save performance for FSU.  The â€Â˜Cats wenttheir third game in a row without scoring a power-play goal.  NMU was 0-5tonight on the power play and are 0-13 in the past three games.  FSU was 2-7with the extra attacker. 


The two teams will do it again tomorrow night in Big Rapids, Mich. at 7:05 p.m.
