
MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University menâ€Â™s cross country ski team won two events over the weekend.  On Saturday(Dec. 3) the â€Â˜Cats won the NMU Open with 22 points as UW-Green Bay was secondwith 14. Sunday the action moved to Michigan Tech for the MTU Open and theâ€Â˜Cats were victorious with 21 points over the Phoenix with 17.ÂÂÂ
Bryan Cook won the NMU open title as he covered the coursein a time of 29:43. The next â€Â˜Cat to ski across the finish line was AdriaanOstrander in fifth place (31:32). Phillip Violett finished in ninth place(32:02) as teammate Ben Cline was a little over 30 seconds behind him (32:35). Two other â€Â˜Cats were in the top 20 with Jason Kask in 12th (32:42)and Gus Kaeding finishing 18th (33:03). Bret Bedard rounded out theNMU skiers in a tie for 25th (33:39).ÂÂÂ
Kaeding was the top finisher for the â€Â˜Cats on Sunday with athird-place showing (30:21), teammate Ostrander was three seconds back(30:24). Violett was the only other â€Â˜Cat in the top 10 as he placed eighth(30:50). Kask tied for 22nd (32:29) and Bedard was 24th(32:38) for the â€Â˜Cats.
This week the â€Â˜Cats will skate once again at home onSaturday (Dec. 14) and at MTU on Sunday.
