Allison Carroll's 20 Points Not Enough


 

MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ Well as the oldsaying goes, all good things must come to an end.  Entering todayâ€Â™s game, TheUniversity of Findlay womenâ€Â™s basketball team had never defeated Northern Michigan University.  All that has changed as the Oilers defeated the Wildcats,72-65, in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) openerfor both squads. UF is now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC.  The â€Â˜Cats are 1-3and 0-1 respectively.

 

The first half was close as neither team had a big lead. The Oilers held an eight-point lead, 31-23, with 4:20 left in the half.  Theâ€Â˜Cats scored four straight points complements of Allison Carroll as she sanktwo free throws and added a basket in the final two minutes of the half.  UFwent into the locker room with a 31-27 lead after 20 minutes of play.

 

Carroll scored the first basket of the second half to cutthe Oilers lead to 31-29. Ã‚  She ended the game with a team-high 20 points.  UFdid have a double-digit lead at 48-37 with 13:11 left in the game.  TeraOpperman sank two free throws at the 3:09 mark to tie the score at 58-all. Jenna Williams hit a three-pointer with a little over a minute left in the gameto cut UFâ€Â™s lead to 66-63. Williams scored again with six ticks left on theclock to narrow the gap to 70-65.  The Oilers then made two free throws for thefinal margin.

 

Two other â€Â˜Cats were in double-digits as Maria Kasza added14 points and Williams had 10.  Opperman and Angela Britton each had sevenboards to share team honors.  Julie Kafun from UF had a game-high 21 points and13 rebounds.  All of her rebounds were on the defensive end. 

 

NMU was 23-67 from the floor for the game for 34.3 percent. The â€Â˜Cats only made three, three-pointers for the game out of 12 attempts for25 percent.  From the free throw line, the â€Â˜Cats were 16-20 for 80 percent. The Oilers controlled the boards with a 46-37 advantage. 

 

The â€Â˜Cats will face Saginaw Valley at University Center, Mich. on Thursday, Dec. 8 for their next game.
