BAY CITY, Mich. â€Â“ Northern Michigan Universityâ€Â™s Nicole Hintze (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) was named the volleyball Freshmanof the Year by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) invoting conducted by the leagueâ€Â™s head coaches.  She was also named to theAll-GLIAC first team.


Teammates Sam Schulte (Kenosha, Wis.) was named to the secondteam while Brittany McGowan (Naperville, Ill.) was an honorable mentionselection.


Hintze is second on the squad with 315 kills (3.28 k/game). She leads the Wildcats with 323 digs (3.36 per game), is third on the team with24 service aces and has posted 35 assists.  Hintze recorded 25 kills against Lake Superior State on Oct. 22, which was a career-high.  At the net, Hintze has one blocksolo and 36 block assists.  She was named the GLIAC North Division Player ofthe Week for Oct. 31.   Ã‚ ÃƒÃ‚‚ 


Schulte has 241 kills (2.77 k/game) and nine service aces. She is tied for the team-lead with 14 block solos and is second on the teamwith 54 block assists.  McGowan has 815 assists (9.70 a/game) which leads theteam.  On the defensive front she has 265 digs (3.15 per game).
