NMU Ousted From GLIAC Tournament

 

MIDLAND, Mich. â€Â“ For the second time in fourdays the Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s volleyball team had to play at Northwood University.  On Saturday, Nov. 5 the â€Â˜Cats lost the match in four games.  Tonightthe scene was the Bennett Center for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate AthleticConference (GLIAC) Volleyball Tournament.  The quarterfinal match saw theTimberwolves take the match in three straight (18-30, 28-30 and 28-30). Northwood advances to the semifinals on Saturday. 

 

For the â€Â˜Cats the season is up in the air.  NMU is currentlyranked eighth in the NCAA II Great Lakes Region.  The top eight teams advanceto the regional tournament.  The â€Â˜Cats current record is 15-12.  Northwoodmoves on with a record of 21-9.

 

Andrea Smith was the lone offense for the â€Â˜Cats on Wednesdaynight against the Timberwolves.  She had 10 kills.  For the match NMU was32-143 for a hitting percentage of .021.  Brittany McGowan had 22 assists andthree service aces for the match.  Megan Elliott also added three serviceaces. 

 

McGowan also led the defensive effort with 15 digs. Ã‚  TeammatesBreanne Zaremba and Stephanie Cross added 11 and 10 digs respectively.  Theâ€Â˜Cats did not have a block solo at the net, but Holly Greenamyre had four blockassists.
