EAST LANSING, Mich. â€Â“ The mentor tookit to the student on Saturday night at Munn Ice Arena.  The Michigan State UniversitySpartans took it to the â€Â˜Cats with a 5-0 victory and a sweep.  With the lossthe â€Â˜Cats are now 5-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the Central Collegiate HockeyAssociation (CCHA).  The Spartans improve to 5-1-1 and 2-0-1 respectively.


MSU scored two of its five goals on the power play.  TheSpartans had five opportunities on the night.  NMU was 0-8 with the extraattacker.  Colton Fretter scored the first power-play goal at 12:11 of thefirst period.  Zak McClellan and Bryan Lerg added even strength goals in thesecond period at 3:06 and 6:45.  Drew Miller at 2:09 of the third period addedthe second power-play goal of the evening to give the home team a 4-0 lead. Tim Crowder then added an even strength goal at 16:46 of the period.


Bill Zaniboni started in goal for the â€Â˜Cats and lasted for26:45.  He had 11 saves and gave up three of the goals.  Derek Janzen playedthe final 33:15 and had five saves and two goals-against.  Dominic Vicari wentthe distance for the Spartans and had 15 saves. 


NMU could only mange 15 shots on the night.  MSU had 21 forthe game. 


Next week the â€Â˜Cats will be back at the Berry Events Centeras the University of Michigan will be in town for two CCHA games (Nov. 11-12). The puck will drop at 7:35 p.m. both nights.
