For The Sixth Time In As Many Years, 'Cats Qualify

 

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan Universitywomenâ€Â™s cross country team qualified, for the sixth straight year, for the NCAAII Championships slated to be held Saturday, Nov. 19, in Pomona, Calif.  NMU placed fourth with 123 points at the NCAA II Great Lakes Region Championshipsat Ferris State on Saturday.  Grand Valley State won the event with 29 points,Wisconsin-Parkside was second (110) and Southern Indiana third (113). 

 

Stephanie Howe earned All-Region honors with her third placefinish in the event.  She covered the course in a time of 21:32.9.  Mandi Zembafrom GVSU won the event with a time of 20:47.0 and Heather Cooksey from Southern Indiana was second (21:22.8). 

 

The next two â€Â˜Cats to cross the finish line were Kelly Ahernin 24th place (22:56.3) and Maria Stuber in 25th(22:56.7).  Jane Stieber and Brooke Rediger rounded out the scorers for theâ€Â˜Cats with their 33rd (23:13.2) and 38th (23:21.1) placeshowings.
