'Cats Shutout On NMU Pitch

 

MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ What a difference aday makes.  Yesterday the Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s soccer teamfound a way to defeat Ferris State (2-1).  Today on the NMU pitch the GrandValley State University Lakers were in town to take on the â€Â˜Cats.  The Lakersleft the U.P. with a 3-0 win.  NMU is now 5-4 overall on the season and 1-1 inthe Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).  GVSU improves to11-1 and 2-0 in the GLIAC.

 

Katy Tafler scored GVSUâ€Â™s first two goals of the game.  Herfirst goal came at 2:17 on an assist from Morela Tutnudzic.  Tafler scored hersecond goal at 51:40 of the contest on an assist from Shannon Carrier.  TheLakers made the score 3-0 when Tutnudzic found the back of the net at 59:07. Ashley Elsass was given the assist on the goal.

 

NMU had seven shots on the afternoon as two were on goal. GVSU had 17 shots as 10 were on target.  The Lakers had the advantage on cornerkicks with a 10 to five slate.  Karen LeBlanc had seven saves on the day forthe â€Â˜Cats.

 

NMU will play their next three games away from Marquette.  First are two games at Northwood University in Midland, Mich. Ã‚  NMU will faceThe University of Findlay on Wednesday, Oct. 5, and West Virginia Wesleyan onFriday, Oct. 7.  Sunday, Oct. 9, NMU is at Ashland.
