
MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ After playing the first 11matches of the 2005 season on the road the Northern Michigan University volleyball team finally had a home match. The match was the home debut of headcoach Qi Wang. But in the end the Timberwolves of Northwood University spoiledthe party by taking a five-game match (25-30, 30-25, 19-30, 30-28 and 15-17)over the home team. NMU is now 6-6 overall on the season and 3-1 in theGLIAC. NU improves to 9-6 and 3-1 in the conference.
Andrea Smith led the â€Â˜Cats with a career-high 26 killsagainst the Timberwolves. She had 56 attempts which was good for a .339hitting percentage. Smith at the net had two block solos and one block assistfor the match.
Nicole Hintze added 19 kills while Holly Greenamyre added12. As a team the â€Â˜Cats ended the match with 73 kills, in 193 attempts for ahitting percentage of .187. The fourth game saw the â€Â˜Cats with 22 kills in 39total attempts for a hitting percentage of .436.
Brittany McGowan led NMU with 38 assists on the night. Rachel Martinez passed the rock 16 times. On the defensive front, Megan Elliothad a match-high 19 digs. Hintze and Breanne Zaremba both added 14 digs each.
The â€Â˜Cats are back in action again tomorrow afternoon (4p.m.) at home against the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley.
