Buddy Rivera And Jim Couretas Honored By The GLIAC


 

BAY CITY, Mich. â€Â“ For the second week in a rowtwo Northern Michigan University football players were honored by the GreatLakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) as Offensive and DefensivePlayers of the Week.  This week Buddy Rivera was named on offense and teammateJim Couretas was the defensive pick.

 

Rivera (QB, 6-1, 200) the sophomore from Grandville, Mich. posted nearly 400 yards of total offense and accounted for five touchdowns in NMUâ€Â™s40-37 double overtime loss to Findlay.  He was 21-31-2 for 295 yards and fourscores in the air.  Rivera was also the leading rusher in the game with 104yards on 12 carries, and included a 67-yard TD scamper.  He currently rankssecond in the GLIAC in total offense averaging 285.3 yards per game.

 

Couretas (LB, 6-2, 230) the junior from Oxford, Mich. set NCAAII single-game records for most total tackles and most solo tackles in theâ€Â˜Cats loss at Findlay.  He tallied 16 solo tackles, breaking the record of 15,while the 29 total tackles broke the mark of 25 set by Alan Slaughter of Tusculum (Tenn.) in 2000.  Couretas also tallied two quarterback sacks (-10 yards) andforced three fumbles in the game.
