
MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s soccer team (1-0) opened up the 2005 season in a big way with a 2-0win over NCAA I member Youngstown State University (0-1) on Friday afternoon atthe NMU Soccer Field. Renee LeBlanc was all the â€Â˜Cats needed on the day as shescored both goals for the home team.
After a scoreless first half of play, LeBlanc scored the firstgoal of the game a little over three minutes into the second half (48:17). Michelle Gillespie assisted on the goal. LeBlanc scored her second goal of thegame at the 59:49 mark, unassisted.ÂÂÂ
The other LeBlanc on the squad, Karen, had six saves in goalfor the â€Â˜Cats. Both teams had 13 shots for the game. The Penguins had fourcorner kicks to two for the â€Â˜Cats.
NMU will hit the road for the next five games. First up isa trip to the Chicago area to tangle with Lewis University on Sunday afternoon(Aug. 28).
