MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ Dean Ellis, the head menâ€Â™sbasketball coach at Northern Michigan University, has announced that Tom Graveshas accepted the position of associate head coach with the menâ€Â™s basketballprogram.  â€ÂœTom has 10 years of experience as an assistant coach in the GLIACwhich will be a valuable asset to our program,â€Â Ellis said. During the 2004-05season, Graves served the NMU menâ€Â™s basketball program as a volunteer coach. Ã¢Ã‚€Ã‚ÂœHe also spent a valuable season as a volunteer assistant this past season, sohe is very familiar with our players and system,â€Â Ellis added. 


Graves has been an assistant coach at GLIAC members, Saginaw Valley (2003-04) and Northwood (1988-97).  At Northwood he was also the head golfcoach.  Some of his duties included practice planning, game preparation, playerevaluation and individual improvement programs.  â€ÂœI am extremely happy to be onboard and be part of the staff,â€Â Graves said.  â€ÂœI know that I have huge shoesto fill with Troyâ€Â™s (Mattson) departure.â€ÂÃƒÃ‚‚  He has also been involved withrecruiting of student-athletes, team travel and academic advising.   From1986-88, Graves was a student-assistant coach at NMU where he was in charge ofthe video exchange, supervised the study table and oversaw the scout team.  â€ÂœIam excited to work with Dean (Ellis) on a full-time basis,â€Â Graves added. 


Graves has assisted and directed basketball camps at NMU, Saginaw Valley and Northwood.  He has been involved with marketing and public relations,selling, fund raising and promotions with the Cardinals and Timberwolves.


Graves led the UW-Marinette basketball team in assistsduring his freshman year.  He graduated from NMU in 1988 with a bachelorâ€Â™sdegree in secondary education with an emphasis in history.
