Qi Wang Named NMU Volleyball Coach


 

MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ Ken Godfrey, the Athletic Director at Northern Michigan University, hasannounced that Qi Wang (pronounced Chee Wong) has accepted the position of headvolleyball coach at NMU.  He will begin his duties on March 14.  â€ÂœWe areextremely happy to get someone of his caliber,â€Â Godfrey said.  â€ÂœI am optimisticabout the future of the volleyball program.â€Â

 

Wang comes to NMU from Truman State University where he was on the volleyball staff for eight years (1997-04).  Hehas been the head coach for the past four years (2001-04) where he led theBulldogs to a 133-17 overall record. Ã‚  For the 2004 season, Trumanâ€Â™s only losswas to Barry in the NCAA II Championship match and ended the season with a 37-1slate.  Wang was the NCAA II National Coach of the Year for the 2002 season. Since 2001 the Truman volleyball team has been ranked in the AVCA Top 25 andhas had a 100 percent graduation rate. 

 

A public reception will be heldfor Wang with the date, time and place to be announced.
