HOUGHTON, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s cross country ski team took home the CCSA Regional Championship titles inthe classic and freestyle events over the weekend at Michigan Tech.  NMUtallied 85 team points in the classic event on Saturday (Feb. 19) as UW-Green Bay was second with 67.  On Sunday (Feb. 20) the â€Â˜Cats had a total of 86 teampoints to take the freestyle title as UW-Green Bay was second again with 70.  NMUhad 171 combined points as UW-Green Bay was second with 137. 


The NMU skiers had six of the top eight places in theclassic race.  Only the top three finishers score team points.  LindsayWilliams won the event as she covered the 5K course in 16:45.9 almost five secondsahead of the second place finisher (16:50.6).  The third through the fifthplaces belonged to the â€Â˜Cats as Lindsey Weier was third (17:02.2) as she wasfollowed by Morgan Smyth (17:04.0) and Tami Kochen (17:09.8).  Maria Stuberplaced seventh with a time of 17:22.1 and in eighth place was teammate JenniferWygant (18:00.5).  


Williams won her second title over the weekend as shecaptured the freestyle event.  She covered the 10K course in a time of 31:18.1as teammate Weier was second (31:27.7).  Stuber claimed the fourth spot(32:27.1) as teammates Smyth (32:41.4) and Kochen (32:49.0) were the next twoskiers to cross the finish line.  Wygant covered the course in 33:40.4 whichwas good for ninth.


The team will compete next at the NCAA Skiing NationalChampionships in Burlington, Vt. from March 7-13.  Weier, Kochen and Williamsall qualified for nationals.
