
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s basketball team picked-up their second win in a rowover the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals on Thursday night by a 78-58count. The two teams met in Marquette on Monday and the â€Â˜Cats won 79-68. NMUwith the win won their fourth game in a row and are now 14-9 overall and 7-8 inthe GLIAC. SV falls to 7-16 and 3-12 respectively.ÂÂÂ
The â€Â˜Cats led for almost the entire game as Tiffany Grubaughopened the game with a bucket and the early 2-0 lead. SV made a three-pointerfor their only lead of the game at 3-2 with two minutes gone. Tera Oppermansank a three-pointer of her own for the 5-3 lead at 17:24 of the first half andthe team never looked back.ÂÂÂ
Grubaugh led all scorers with 17 points. Holly Cole had 14points off the bench for the â€Â˜Cats. Allison Carroll had 12 points and sixrebounds in the win. Opperman had a game-high six assists which was followedby teammateâ€Â™s Maria Kaszaâ€Â™s five helpers.ÂÂÂ
NMU was 31-56 from the floor for the game for 55.4 percent. The â€Â˜Cats were 7-19 from the arc (36.8 percent) and 9-12 from the free throwline (75 percent). NMU had a big rebounding advantage with a 41-28 count. Butthe Cardinals won the offensive boards battle with 12 to 11 for the â€Â˜Cats.
NMU will face Lake Superior State on Saturday (Feb. 19).
