BIG RAPIDS, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University menâ€Â™s basketball team saw their five-game winning streak end on Saturdayafternoon at Ferris State University when the Bulldogs held off a late â€Â˜Catsurge to take the game 80-75.   Ã‚ NMU falls to 10-11 overall and 5-7 in theGLIAC.  FSU is 15-5 and 7-5 respectively.


The â€Â˜Cats were down by 14 points at the half (38-24) whileshooting 38.1 percent from the floor (8-21) for the first 20 minutes of thegame.  Over the last five minutes of the half the Bulldogs went on a 12-4 run. Jake Suardini scored both baskets for the â€Â˜Cats in the last five minutes of thehalf.


The second half saw the â€Â˜Cats pick away at the lead and hadit down under double-digits when Nick Buck canned a three-pointer with 6:42left in the game and the Bulldogs leading 61-54.  Buck connected on anotherthree at 2:58 left to get the â€Â˜Cats within three points at 70-67.  With 16ticks left on the clock, Suardini made both of his free throws as the â€Â˜Cats nowwere down by one (76-75).  But, the home team made all four of their freethrows to ice the win in the final seconds of the game.


Ricky Volcy led the â€Â˜Cats with 21 points and four assists. Brother, Marco, had another double-double with his 16 points and 12 rebounds. He also had six assists and two steals.  Suardini off the bench ended the gamewith 12 points and five rebounds.


NMU was 25-53 from the floor for the game (47.2 percent) and6-15 from thee-point land (40 percent).  From the charity stripe the â€Â˜Cats were19-26 for 73.1 percent.  NMU won the rebounding tussle on the afternoon with a31-24 edge, which included 11 off the offensive glass. 


The â€Â˜Cats will face Northwood on Thursday (Feb. 10) fortheir next action.
