COLERAINE, Minn. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s cross country ski team competed at the NorAm Super Tour at Mt. Itasca, Minn. over the weekend.  Saturday (Jan. 22) was the freestyle event as the â€Â˜Cats capturedthe college division with 66 points, 12 more than Alaska Fairbanks.  NMU alsocaptured the classic race on Sunday (Jan. 23) with 69 points, 18 more thanrunner-up UAF. 


The â€Â˜Cats had six of the top 12 skiers who competed in thefreestyle race on Saturday as the team was led by Lindsey Weier in secondplace.  Weier covered the course in a time of 32:53.01 about 28 seconds behindthe winner Johanna Turunen from UAF.  Tami Kochen was third (33:15.44) as shewas followed by teammate Lindsay Williams in fourth (33:25.07).  Maria Stuberin sixth (33:55.78) was followed by seventh place finisher Morgan Smyth(34:24.27).  Jennifer Wygant was the final â€Â˜Cat to place in the event as shewas 11th (36:36.17).


NMU dominated the classic race on Sunday with the top fourfinishers and five of the top seven.  Williams won the event with a time of15:30.64 a little more than 12 seconds ahead of teammate Weier (15:43.29). Smyth was third (16:01.67) as Tami Kochen was fourth (16:03.14).  Stuber inseventh (16:33.77) was followed by Wygant in 15th (17:48.53).


The â€Â˜Cats will be at NorAm event, which will be held in Hayward, Wis. this weekend.
