COLERAINE, Minn. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University menâ€Â™s cross country ski team competed at the NorAm Super Tour at Mt. Itasca, Minn. over the weekend.  Saturday (Jan. 22) was the freestyle event where the â€Â˜Cats weresecond in the college division with 62 points, five behind Alaska Fairbanks whowon the event.  UAF also captured the classic race on Sunday (Jan. 23) with 65points one more than the â€Â˜Cats.


Bryan Cook led the â€Â˜Cats on Saturday with a second placeshowing in the freestyle race with a time of 1:02.96.  He was 1:02.96 behindthe winner from UAF, Thomas Oyberg.  The Nanooks took four of the top fiveplaces in the event.  Bret Bedard was sixth (28:50.44) followed by teammatesJustin Singleton in seventh (29:00.90) and Gus Kaeding in eighth (29:24.23). They were followed by Adriaan Ostrander in 11th (30:05.04) and BillBowler in 13th (30:15.52).


In the classic race on Sunday, the â€Â˜Cats had three of thetop five finishers in the race.  Kaeding was second in the event with a clockingof 28:19.76 a little more than 48 seconds behind the winner from UAF, Oyberg(27:31.25).  Crossing the finish line in fourth and fifth place respectivelywere Cook (28:29.44) and Bowler (28:55.79).  Ostrander skied across the finishline in ninth (29:12.49) as he was followed by teammate Bedard in 10th(29:27.36).  Singleton rounded out the NMU skiers with a 13th placeshowing (29:47.29).


The â€Â˜Cats will be at NorAm event, which will be held in Hayward, Wis. this weekend.
