UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. ÃƒƒÃ‚¢Ãƒ‚Ã‚€Ãƒ‚Ã‚“ The Northern Michigan University womenÃƒƒÃ‚¢Ãƒ‚Ã‚€Ãƒ‚Ã‚™s track team kicked off the indoor portion of theirschedule by competing at the Saginaw Valley Indoor Collegiate Open on Saturday(Jan. 22).
Stephanie Boyer began the day with a fourth place showing inthe 400-meter dash as she ran a 1:02.04 in the event.ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚ Brooke Rediger thenplaced third in the mile run with a clocking of 5:26.48.ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚ Two other NMU runnersplaced in the top 10 in the mile as Jessica Kalafut was seventh (5:29.69) andBrittney Coehoon was ninth (5:32.32).ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚
The 3,000 run had three NMU runners in the top 10.ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚ JaneStieber led the way with a sixth place showing (11:06.31), as she was followedby Kara Farquhar in eighth place (11:15.10) and Jamie Grunert in ninth(11:15.24).ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚ In the field events, Leslie Luehmann and Boyer placed in the longjump.ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚ Luehmann was fifth with a leap of 16-04.5m while Boyer was seventh(16-01.75).
In the relays the 4x400 of Kaylee Laakso, Danielle St. Onge,Amanda Mishica and Boyer were second with a time of 4:17.58.ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚ The distancemedley relay of Kalafut, Stephanie Mishica, Laakso and Rediger, won the event,with a time of 12:33.44 which was also good for a NCAA II provisionalqualifying time.
The ÃƒƒÃ‚¢Ãƒ‚Ã‚€Ãƒ‚Ã‚˜Cats are back in action on Jan. 28 at the UW-OshkoshInvitational.
