MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ Monday night at the Berry Events Center, The University of Findlay Oilers, the GLIAC South leading team provedwhy they could repeat as conference champs.  The Oilers raced out to a 21-7lead in the first half and held on to down the â€Â˜Cats 79-70.  For the â€Â˜Cats itwas their first loss at home for the 2004-05 season.  NMU is still looking fortheir first GLIAC win of the season (0-3) and are 5-7 overall.  UF is 10-2 onthe season and a perfect 4-0 in the conference.


UF held a seven point lead (40-33) at the half after havinga 16-point lead at the 8:50 mark of the first half.  A made free throw by RandyAlexandre, two baskets by Ricky Volcy and a three-pointer by Ryan Reichel cutthe lead to 29-21 with a little over six minutes left in the half.  Both teamsconverted 14 shots from the floor for the first 20 minutes of the game.  UF was14-28 for 50 percent while NMU was 14-29 for 48.2 percent.  Both teams madethree three-pointers in the first half.  The difference was from the free throwline as the Oilers made 13 trips to the line and made nine of the throws whilethe â€Â˜Cats only made four trips and made two. 


When R. Volcy converted a three-point play about a minuteinto the second half the â€Â˜Cats had the lead down to three points at 42-39.  Butthe Oilers answered with a 10-4 run to have a 13-point lead at 56-43 with 14:53left in the game.  From there the â€Â˜Cats could not get any closer than sevenpoints.


R. Volcy led all scorers with 27 points.  He also had eightrebounds for a game-high.  David Noel added 12 points while Marco Volcy had10.  Alexandre dished out five assists for a game-high. 


NMU was 22-52 from the floor for the game for 48.1 percent. The â€Â˜Cats were 8-18 from the three-point line (44.4 percent) and 12-16 from thefree throw line (75 percent).  It was almost even on the boards as UF had the33-30 advantage.  The Oilers had 14 offensive boards to 10 for NMU.


NMU will hit the road later in the week as they will take onHillsdale on Thursday night (Jan. 6) and Wayne State on Saturday (Jan. 8).
