
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s volleyball team will not be repeating as GLIAC TournamentChampions. The â€Â˜Cats were defeated by Ferris State on their home court tonightin four games (26-30, 27-30, 30-21, 28-30) in the GLIAC Tournament QuarterfinalRound. NMU defeated the Bulldogs four days ago on the same court in fivegames. The â€Â˜Cats also owned a late September win over the Bulldogs in Marquette.
The â€Â˜Cats are now 21-6 on the season and will wait to findout if they have qualified for the NCAA II Regional Tournament. Ferris willadvance in the tournament as they are now 23-6 overall on the season.
Andrea Smith and Holly Greenamyre both had 16 kills to paceNMU on the night. Aimee Dewitte had 15 kills while Jennie Little added 11. Â As a team the third game was the best hitting game for the â€Â˜Cats with 20 killsin 46 attempts for a hitting percentage of .304. For the match NMU had 67kills in 188 total attempts for a .149 hitting percentage.
Dewitte was a standout for the â€Â˜Cats on the defensive frontwith 20 digs and four block assists. Ashley Kiel and Liz Kohn both had 16 digson the night. Brittany McGowan added a team-high 29 assists.ÂÂÂ
