MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ The Aqua-â€Â˜Catsopened the 2004-05 season on Friday night at the PEIF Pool, but at least it wasthe first meet of the season.  After the final event was done for the meet NMU wasdefeated by the St. Cloud State University Huskies 174-69.  The two teams willdive back into action tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 30) and will swim the longerevent format.  Tonight the two teams swam the shorter events which arebasically 100s of all the strokes, while the longer events are 200s of all thestrokes.


Only two â€Â˜Cats picked up wins on the night as Larisa Grahamwon the 200-yard individual medley and Michelle Ruiz took the one-meter divingevent.  Graham won the event with a time of 2:15.57.  She also had a thirdplace finish for the meet as Graham was third in the 100 breaststroke(1:13.80). Ã‚  Ruiz captured the diving event with a score of 237.85.


The 200 medley relay of Julie Weiler, Graham, Sarah Bartoshand Cricket Knight finished in second place in the first event of the meet witha clocking of 1:56.64.  Sam Pechek had a second place finish on the night witha runner-up placing in the 100 freestyle (54.99) and a third place showing inthe 200 freestyle (1:59.29).  The final event of the meet, the 200 freestylerelay of Pechek, Lindsey Vermillion, Catt Dougherty and Mimi Marschall placedsecond with a time of 1:44.44.
