ASHLAND, Ohio â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University volleyball â€Â˜Cats picked up a conference road victory on Saturday night asthey downed the Ashland University Eagles 3-2 (30-25, 30-28, 27-30, 25-30,15-9).  The â€Â˜Cats are now 16-4 overall and 8-4 in the GLIAC while the Eaglesare 17-4 overall and 8-3 in conference action. 


The â€Â˜Cats came out strong and won the first two games of thematch, with 23 and 14 kills respectively. In game two the Eagles recorded 10attack errors.   In the next two games the â€Â˜Cats fell, even after recording 19in game three and 16 kills in game four.  The â€Â˜Cats finished off the Eagles ingame five where they had nine kills on 20 attempts with only one attack errorfor an attack percentage of .400. 


The â€Â˜Cats had a balanced offensive attack as seven playersrecorded kills, with sophomore Ashley Kiel leading the pack with 23.  AndreaSmith and Holly Greenamyre each added 16 while Aimee Dewitte had 15.  BrittanyMcGowan had 42 assists while teammate Kelli McCune added 35 helpers.  Kiel also added four service aces in the match. 


Defensively the â€Â˜Cats had 77 digs while the Eagles ended thematch with 78.   Dewitte and Liz Kohn each recorded 21 digs while teammates Kiel and McCune each had nine. 


Next weekend is a huge weekend for the volleyball â€Â˜Cats asthey host Saginaw Valley on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 4:00 p.m. and Northwood University on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vandament Arena.
