MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s cross country team hosted their lone home meet of the season on acold and windy day in Marquette on Friday.  The course was set up in such a waythat it covered a portion of the NMU campus.  The â€Â˜Cats had eight of the top 10finishers en route to taking the team title with 19 points.  Michigan Tech wassecond with 44 points.


The overall winner of the 3K race was former NMU runnerJennifer Lahr, who was competing as an open runner; she covered the course in atime of 10:42.1.  Tami Kochen placing second overall was the first collegiaterunner to cross the finish line with a time of 10:43.4.  Kristina Owen fromMichigan Tech was third overall with a clocking of 10:56.3.


Fourth through 10th was all NMU as Jane Stieberwas fourth (10:57.4) followed by Stephanie Howe in fifth (10:58.1), LindsayWilliams in sixth (11:01.2), Maria Stuber in seventh (11:05.5), eighth wasViktoria Koskenoja (11:07.8), Brooke Rediger (11:13.8) and Kara Farquhar(11:16.2) were ninth and 10th overall respectively.


The â€Â˜Cats next action will be at the GLIAC Cross CountryChampionships which will be held at Grand Valley State on Oct. 23.
