MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University hockey team went through the exhibition portion of their schedule with a0-1-1 slate.  The â€Â˜Cats tied the USNTDP U-18 team last night 3-3 and lost toYork University of Toronto tonight 1-0.  It was the â€Â˜Cats first loss in an exhibitiongame since the 1985-86 season when Team Canada defeated the â€Â˜Cats twice.


The lone goal of the game came at 13:48 of the third periodwhen Yorkâ€Â™s Eric Gooldy scored on an assist from Phil Knapp.


Tuomas Tarkki got the start tonight and responded with 16saves.  NMU was 0-10 on the power play while York was 0-4.  A total of 25penalties were called for the game.  The â€Â˜Cats were whistled for 10 for 31minutes while the Lions had 15 for 30 minutes.


NMU opens the season for real next weekend when they face St. Cloud of the WCHA, on the road, for two games Oct. 15-16.
