'Cats Selected Third In CCHA Preseason Poll


 

DETROIT, Mich.  â€Â“ At the CCHAMedia Day activities yesterday the Northern Michigan University hockey team waspicked third in the coaches and sixth in the media preseason polls.  It wasalso announced that the â€Â˜Cats will make one regular season appearance on FSNDetroit.  One â€Â˜Cat was selected to the 2004-05 CCHA Preseason All-ConferenceTeam.

 

NMU received 99 votes in the coaches poll as Michigan wasselected as the team to beat with 10 first-place votes and 120 overall.  Michigan State was second with two first-place votes and 112 overall.  The media pollwas the same for the top two spots as the Wolverines were picked first with 48first-place votes and 662 overall the Spartans garnered six first-place votesand 589 overall.  The â€Â˜Cats received 410 votes overall in the media poll. 

 

NMU will make their lone prime time appearance on the FSNDetroit telecast on Friday, Jan. 28 when the â€Â˜Cats visit Yost Arena to take onthe University of Michigan at 7:30 p.m.

 

Nathan Oystrick was the lone â€Â˜Cat to be selected to thepreseason team.  He was a second team selection, as he was chosen on 16first-team ballots and received 126 total votes.  Oystrick was second on theteam for the 2003-04 squad with 28 points on eight goals and 20 assists. Ã‚ ÃƒÃ‚‚  DarinOlver was picked as an honorable mention selection to the team.
