Streak Is Over For 'Cats


 

MIDLAND, Mich. â€Â“ The old sayinggoes that all good things must come to an end.  For the Northern Michigan Universityvolleyball team the 32-match regular season winning streak came to an end.  Theâ€Â˜Cats were defeated on Saturday afternoon by the Timberwolves of NorthwoodUniversity in five games.  The home team won the first two games by scores of25-30 and 28-30.  NMU then won the third and fourth game, 30-16 and 30-24.  TheTimberwolves won the fifth and deciding game 16-14 to take the match.  With thewin NU is 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the GLIAC while the â€Â˜Cats are 9-1 and 1-1 inthe conference.

 

As a team the â€Â˜Cats had 62 kills in 154 attempts for a teamhitting percentage of .214.  NU had 68 kills for the game in 166 attempts for ateam hitting percentage of .187.  Andrea Smith led the way for the â€Â˜Cats with18 kills as teammate Aimee Dewitte had 17 kills for the match.  Dewitte added11 digs and four block assists.  Ashley Kiel recorded two service aces, ninedigs, two block solos and six block assists. 

 

Holly Greenamyre at the net for the day had one block soloand six block assists.  Kelli McCune dished out a team-high 26 assists with anadditional 21 assists coming from Brittany McGowan.  McGowan was deadly withthe serve as she had a match-high three service aces. Ã‚  NMU as a team had 10service aces on the afternoon.

 

The â€Â˜Cats will be back in action on Sunday afternoon against Saginaw Valley.
