Captain And Assistant Captains Named For Hockey


MARQUETTE, Mich. - Walt Kyle the head hockey coach at Northern Michigan University has announced that Nathan Oystrick has been named the captain ofthe 2004-05 'Cats.  The 6-0, 200, junior defenseman from Regina, Saskatchewanwas an assistant captain during the 2003-04 season.  Oystrick was the secondleading overall scorer and the top scoring defenseman on the team last seasonwith 28 points as he tallied eight goals and 20 assists.

Namedassistant captains for the 2004-05 season were Alan Swanson, Geoff Waugh andKevin Gardner.  Swanson and Waugh were both assistant captains last season. "Nathan Oystrick really emerged as the guy who was returning and was theteam leader," Kyle said.  "(Geoff) Waugh and (Alan) Swanson wereassistants last year and were returning guys and did an outstanding job for usin the past.  They both stand for all the things that I think are important. Kevin Gardner, a fifth-year senior, has emerged in the last two years as aquality player for us.  He has taken a real leadership role and that was aneasy choice." Ã‚ ÃƒÃ‚‚ ÃƒÃ‚‚ 

Swanson, the Marquettenative, is a 5-9, 175, senior forward as he had 14 points last year on fivegoals and nine assists.  Waugh (6-4, 215) the junior defenseman from Winnipeg, Manitobahad 15 points during the 2003-04 season on two goals and 13 assists.  Gardner aforward, 6-2, 190, from Edmonton, Alberta tallied 21 points on eight goals and13 assists last season.

"Weprobably have the best leadership on a hockey team that I have had on my timehere," Kyle added.
