'Cats Extended To Four Games


 

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University volleyball team tested their new ranking on Thursday night at Lewis University.  Earlier in the week the â€Â˜Cats moved up to 10th placein the CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25.  Also on the line was the â€Â˜Cats 27match regular season winning streak. 

 

The Flyers are the first team to take NMU past three gamesthis season, but it was still not enough as the streak is now at 28 matches. NMU won the first two games by scores of 30-28 and 30-18, before the home teamcaptured the third game 16-30.  NMU came back to win the match by taking thefourth game 30-28.  The â€Â˜Cats improve to 5-0 on the season while the Flyersdrop to 5-2.

 

Four â€Â˜Cats were in double-digits in kills as Jennie Little andAimee Dewitte led the way with 16 and 15 kills respectively.  Andrea Smithadded 13 while Ashley Kiel had 10.  Kiel added six service aces and Dewittecame up with four.  Dewitte led the team with 12 digs as teammate Kiel added11.

 

Brittany McGowan and Kelli McCune led the team in the assistcategory.  McGowan registered a team-high 28 assists as McCune passed the ball fora point 22 times. 

 

Kiel was a force at the net as she tallied seven blockassists on the night.  Dewitte had four total blocks on the night with oneblock solo and three block assists.

 

NMU will stay in Romeoville for the weekend and participatein the Lewis Invitational which is the GLVC-GLIAC cross over event.  NMU willplay Quincy on Friday (Sept. 10) and then face on Saturday UW-Parkside and thehost school Lewis.
