HOUGHTON, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s cross country team ran their first race of the 2004campaign on Friday afternoon at the MTU Invitational.  NMU had nine of the top10 placers in the race and the top seven overall. Ã‚  The â€Â˜Cats won the eventwith 15 points as MTU was second with 50 points.


Tami Kochen crossed the finish line first with a time of19:50.00 as teammate Stephanie Howe was 12 seconds behind the winner with atime of 20:02.00.  Jane Stieber was third with a clocking of 20:07.00 the nextâ€Â˜Cat to cover the course was Maria Stuber in fourth place (20:21.50).  KaraFarquhar was fifth in the race as she ran the course in a time of 20:22.00,sixth was Brooke Rediger (20:22.50) and seventh was Laura DeWitt (20:33.00).


The final two â€Â˜Cats in the top 10 were Victoria Koskenoja inninth place (20:38.00) and Lindsay Williams in 10th (20:40.00).


NMU will run next at the Lester Park Invitational in Duluth, Minn. next Saturday (Sept. 11).
