Matt Granstrand Picks Up First Win


 

MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ MattGrandtrandâ€Â™s debut as the Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s soccer coach onSaturday afternoon was a success.  The â€Â˜Cats defeated Minnesota-Crookston by ascore of 2-0 on a less than August day in the U.P.  The temperature was in thehigh 50s to low 60s for the game with the wind blowing for the majority of thegame.

 

Michelle Gillespie scored the first goal of the game on anassist from Michelle Brown.  The score came at 2:54 of the game.  Marley Garceoadded the second goal at 60:10 for the margin.  Rachel Vilders assisted on thegoal.

 

Karen LeBlanc getting her first career start in goal hadthree saves on the day. The â€Â˜Cats had eight corner kicks against the GoldenEagles.  For the game the â€Â˜Cats managed 18 shots while only letting thevisitors have six. 

 

NMU will face MSU-Moorhead on Sunday, Aug. 29 at 2:00 p.m. for their next game.
