MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University volleyball team (1-0) picked up just where they left off from the2003 regular season.  The â€Â˜Cats have now won 24 straight regular season matcheswith a three-game sweep (30-25, 30-23, 30-18) of the visiting University ofMinnesota-Duluth Bulldogs (0-1) on Friday night at the Vandament Arena on theNMU campus.  Both teams were ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25Preseason Poll.  The â€Â˜Cats were ranked 14th while the Bulldogs were17th.  Fourteen of the 24 wins have lasted three games.

Aimee Dewitte and Jennie Little were the big hitters for theâ€Â˜Cats on the night.  Dewitte paced the squad with 13 kills in 26 attempts for ahitting percentage of .385.  Little hit for .364 percent with 11 kills in 22attempts.  Andrea Smith and Holly Greenamyre both had 10 kills on the night. As a team the â€Â˜Cats registered 57 kills for the match.

Brittany McGowan playing in her first collegiate match ledthe team with 19 assists.  Kelli McCune had 15 assists on the night.  Liz Kohnled the defensive charge with nine digs as Dewitte had seven and McGowan fivefor the match.

Ashley Kiel had three of the eight block assists for NMU. Smith was the only other â€Â˜Cat to have two block assists.  Ã‚ 

NMU is back in action on Sunday, Aug. 29 against Bemidji Stateat 4:00 p.m.
