Justin Kinnunen Has A Goal And An Assist In The Win


 

MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Â“ Justin Kinnunenwho is playing in his last weekend at home as a Wildcat had two points on agoal and an assist to lead the NMU to a 3-2 win over the visiting Ferris StateUniversity Bulldogs on Friday night at the Berry Events Center.  With the winthe â€Â˜Cats improve to 17-4-2 overall and 12-13-2 in the CCHA.  Ferris falls to 15-17-3 and 10-16-1 in the conference.

 

The Bulldogs struck first with a goal at 19:43 of the first period.  The â€Â˜Cats would score three goals in a row to take the game.  PatBateman scored the first goal, for his sixth of the season, to tie it atone-all at 4:28 of the second period.  Kinnunen assisted on Batemanâ€Â™s goalbefore he scored a power-play goal for the â€Â˜Cats at 9:44 of the second period.  For Kinnunen it was his fifth goal of the season.  â€ÂœWe have got to getback to playing good hockey,â€Â Kinnunen said.  â€ÂœThis win is going to help usgoing into the playoffs.â€ÂÃƒÃ‚‚  Dusty Collins and Dave Bonk assisted on the goal. 

 

NMU made the score 3-1 when Nathan Oystrick scored hisseventh goal of the season at 19:39 of the second period.  â€ÂœFor us to win gameswe have to play physical,â€Â Oystrick said.  â€ÂœI like playing the body and scoringgoals.  What ever I can do to help the team is what I do.â€ÂÃƒÃ‚‚  Matt York of Ferrisadded a power-play marker at 2:55 of the third period for the final margin.

 

Craig Kowalski set a new NMU career record for saves in acareer as he had 27 saves on the night.  He currently has 3,429 saves for hiscareer.  He also took over the Perani Cup Individual Standings lead with hissecond star on Friday night.  The Bulldogs used a combination of twogoaltenders on Friday night as Mike Brown started the game and registered 12saves in two periods of play.  Matt Swanson had five saves in a period of play.

 

Both teams had one power-play goal on the night.  NMU hadfive chances while FSU had six power-play opportunities.

 

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the Berry Events Center. Ã‚
