HOUGHTON, Mich. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Â™s cross country ski team competed at the NCAA Central RegionalChampionships over the weekend at Michigan Tech.  On Saturday the â€Â˜Cats won the5K freestyle race with 83 points as Alaska Fairbanks was second with 82points.  Sunday the â€Â˜Cats made it a clean sweep by taking the 15K classic eventwith 85 points as the Nanooks were second with 80 points.  Only the top threeskiers scored the team points in each event.


Lindsay Williams led the â€Â˜Cats on Saturday in the freestyleevent with a second place showing in a time of 14:07.0.  Sigrid Aas of UAF wonthe event with time of 13:40.0.  Teammate Caitlin Compton finished in thirdplace just behind Williams with a time of 14:07.2.  Lindsey Weier was the nextâ€Â˜Cat to cross the finish line in fifth place (14:22.5). 


On Sunday in the classical event the tables were turned asWilliams won the event with a time of 52:53.5.  Aas of UAF was second in a timeof 53:04.4.  Weier then placed third in the event (53:23.2) as she was followedby teammate Rachel Daw (53:37.7) in fourth place. 


The team will compete next at the NCAA Skiing Championships,March 10-13, which are being held at the Auburn Ski Club in Truckee, Calif.
