MARQUETTE, Mich.- The Northern Michigan University Athletic Department has announced theAthletes of the Month for December and January.  The Academic Athlete of theMonth for December has also been announced by the NMU Athletic Department.

The Athletes of the Month forDecember were Rachel Daw from Duluth, Minn. a member of the cross country skiteam and Craig Kowalski from Clinton Twp., Mich. a member of the hockey squad. Daw won the freestyle and classical races at the Grand View Cross CountryChallenge in Ironwood, Mich.  Kowalski recorded two shutouts in December andwas the CCHA Defensive Player of the Week twice in the month.  He was alsonamed the CCHA Player of the Month.

Tiffany Grubaugh from thewomen's basketball team and Bryan Cook from the men's cross country ski teamwere named the Athletes of the Month for January.  Grubaugh from Canton, Mich.was twice named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week for January.  Sheleads the team in scoring and three-point field goal percentage.  Cook fromRhinelander, Wis. skied to a first place finish in the 15K classical and asecond place showing in the 10K freestyle events at the Cable, Wis. Norm SuperTour competition.

Ben Cline from the men's crosscountry ski team was named the Academic Athlete of the Month for January. Ã‚  Heearned a 4.00 GPA for the fall semester and has a 3.57 overall GPA.  Thesophomore from Madison, Wis. is majoring in art and design.  Cline is the firstmale to receive the award. Ã‚ ÃƒÃ‚‚ ÃƒÃ‚‚
