Rachel Daw Leads 'Cats At Cable, Wis. Race


Ladies Finish Strong at CXC Norm Super Tour

 

CABLE, Wis. - The Northern Michigan Universitywomenâ€Â™s cross country ski team traveled to Cable, Wis.to participate in the CXC Norm Super Tour over the weekend of Jan. 24-25.

 

Rachel Daw led the â€Â˜Cats in the collegiate female 5k taking athird place finish with a time of 18:21.9. Daw was followed by Caitlin Comptonâ€Â™s fourth place finish (18:22.7) anda fifth place finish from Victoria Koskenoja (18:41.9). Jennifer Wygant tookseventh place for the Green and Gold with a time of 18:44.9.  NMUâ€Â™s Aniya Deitz and Katherine Huemmer roundedout the top 10, Deitz taking ninth place (18:55.3) and Huemmer finishing in10th (19:00.8).

 

Alaska Fairbanks took the team title in the event with 75points.  The â€Â˜Cats were three points backin second place with 72 points.

 

Koskenoja placed second for the collegiate female 10k eventwith a time of 38:11.5. Daw followed with a third place finish (38:27.3) in theevent.  Stephanie Howe was fifth with atime of 39:21.2.  Comptonplaced seventh in the category along with teammate Wygant taking eighth place withtimes of 39:40.8 and 40:04.6 respectively. Deitz finished in 10th place in the race at 40:43.6.

 

The â€Â˜Cats captured the team title in the event with 74points just edging out Alaska Fairbanks as the Nanooks scored 73 points. Ã‚ ÃƒÃ‚‚ 

 

The â€Â˜Cats will skate against Michigan Tech in Houghton nextSaturday, Feb. 7.
