MARQUETTE, Mich.â€Ã‚“ Andrea Brooke scored a career-high 23 points in pacing the Northern Michigan Universitywomenâ€Ã‚™s basketball team on Monday night against Finlandia.  Up by one at halftime (40-39) the â€Ã‚˜Cats shot50 percent from the floor in the second half (16-32) to take the game from theLions by a score of 86-73.  With the winthe â€Ã‚˜Cats are now 7-1 on the season. Finlandia falls to 6-5 on the season.


For the first nine minutes of the game the Lions controlledthe tempo and the score as they had the lead at 15-14 at the 11:07 mark. The â€Ã‚˜Cats went on an eight to two run to make it 22-17 with 7:20 left inthe first half.  Finlandia would taketheir final lead of the half at 36-35 when Jessica Koski made a jumper withless than a minute left. Ã‚  Free throws byBrooke and Tera Opperman closed the first 20 minutes of action for theâ€Ã‚˜Cats. 


To open the second 20 minutes the â€Ã‚˜Cats went on an 18 tofour run to break the game open at 58-43 with about six minutes gone in thehalf.  Ã‚ But the Lions would come back tocut the lead to two points with 10:19 left in the game on two made free throwsby Beth Koski.  Tiffany Grubaughâ€Ã‚™sthree-pointer at the 7:39 mark gavethe â€Ã‚˜Cats an eight point lead at 65-57. With about four minutes left in the game the Lions cut the lead to threepoints at 67-64, but the â€Ã‚˜Cats answered at the other end when Grubaugh made athree-point play.  Grubaugh hit athree-pointer at 2:47 left in thegame to give the â€Ã‚˜Cats a double-digit lead at 79-67 which they kept for the restof the way.


Grubaugh ended the night with 23 points as she was 7-19 fromthe floor, 4-10 in three-pointers and a perfect 5-5 from the line.  She also had 10 rebounds and sevenassists.  Brooke was 8-12 from the floorand 7-8 from the free throw line.  Shealso had seven rebounds. 


The â€Ã‚˜Cats on the night were 28-61 from the floor (45.9percent), 7-20 in threeâ€Ã‚™s (35.0 percent) and 23-28 from the free throw line(82.1 percent).  Finlandia out-reboundedthe â€Ã‚˜Cats on the night by a 36 to 30 margin. 


The â€Ã‚˜Cats are back in action against Lewis University on Monday, December 29at 5:30 p.m.
