'Cats Drop Game To Oakland After Leading At Half

 

ROCHESTER, Mich. â€Ã‚“ For the third time this season the Northern Michigan Universitymenâ€Ã‚™s basketball team played a NCAA I opponent. On Sunday night the â€Ã‚˜Cats took on Oakland University and were defeated by theGolden Grizzlies 76-66.  With the lossthe â€Ã‚˜Cats have dropped four games in a row to move to 4-5 on the season.  Oaklandis also 4-5 on the season.

NMU held the lead for the majorityof the first half as the â€Ã‚˜Cats had their biggest lead of the game at 43-31 with1:12 left in the half.  At the half the â€Ã‚˜Cats went into the lockerroom with a seven point lead at 43-36. The â€Ã‚˜Cats were 17-32 from the floor for 53.1 percent and made half oftheir three-point shots (4-8) for the first half.

Milan Azanjac made a basket at 19:37 of the second half to give the â€Ã‚˜Catstheir biggest lead in the half at 45-36. The Golden Grizzlies gradually narrowed the lead by going on a 13 tofour run over a span of about five minutes to tie the game at 49-all with 14:51left in the game.  The â€Ã‚˜Cats would take thelead back when Louie Koskey made a three-pointer with 10:08 left in regulationto make the score 56-53.  Oaklandwould tie the game at 56-all with 9:18left and then took the lead about 30 seconds later at 58-56 and never lookback.

Marco Volcy and Azanjac both had 11points on the night to lead the â€Ã‚˜Cats. Antwuan Holt added 10 markers in the loss.  M. Volcy led the â€Ã‚˜Cats on the boards withseven rebounds.  As a team NMU had 11more rebounds that the Golden Grizzlies at 44 to 33 rebounds. 

For the game the â€Ã‚˜Cats were 25-56from the floor (44.6 percent), 5-15 in three-pointers (33.3 percent) and fromthe free throw line NMU was 11-19 (57.9 percent).

NMU will travel to St. Norbert onThursday (December 18) for their next action.
