NOTRE DAME, Ind.â€Ã‚“ The NMU Wildcats led the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame for a little over41 minutes of the hockey game on Saturday night.  The â€Ã‚˜Cats were up 2-1 after 40 minutes ofplay, but the Fighting Irish struck for three goals in the third period to makethe final score 4-2 to sweep the weekend series.  NMU falls to 5-7-0 overall and 4-6-0in the CCHA.  Notre Dame is now 8-3-2 and 7-3-2 in the conference.

Darin Olver gave the â€Ã‚˜Cats theearly 1-0 lead with his fifth goal of the season which was on the power play at3:36 of the first period.  Dirk Southern and Nathan Oystrickassisted.  Southern would then pick uphis second point of the night when he scored his fifth goal of the season at 10:38 of the second period to give the â€Ã‚˜Catsthe 2-0 advantage.  Geoff Waugh was giventhe credit with the helper.

Notre Dame would answer with apower-play goal at 14:01 of thesecond period to make it 2-1 after twoperiods of play.  The third period theFighting Irish would strike for three goals as they were at 1:29, 14:56and 16:44 of the period.

The shots were a little more eventonight than last night as the â€Ã‚˜Cats had 27 shots to 30 for Notre Dame.  Craig Kowalski went the distance in goal ashe had 26 saves on the night.  Both teamswere one of five on the power play for the game. Ã‚ 

The â€Ã‚˜Cats go home-and-home nextweekend with Lake Superior State.  NMU will play at Lake State on Friday night, December 5,before changing venues on Saturday night, December 6, as the action shifts to theBerry Events Center.
