'Cats Hold On To Win Second Game Of The Season


 

FARGO, N.D.â€Ã‚“ The NMU menâ€Ã‚™s basketball team held on to win their second game of theyoung season in their second outing of the season.  The â€Ã‚˜Cats held on to defeat MinnesotaState-Moorhead 74-72 at the US Bank Classic at North Dakota State on Saturdaynight.  NMU is now 2-0 on the seasonwhile Moorhead is 0-2.

The â€Ã‚˜Cats shooting 48 percent from the floor for the firsthalf (12-25) held a six point lead at the intermission on Saturday night by ascore of 36-30.  NMU was 5-14 inthree-pointers after the first 20 minutes (35.7 percent). 

The second half the â€Ã‚˜Cats had a lead  as big as 10 points twice in the half as thesecond time was with about 13 minutes left in the game.  With less than 30 second left in the game,Moorhead had cut the lead to two points before Billy Hill sank two free throwsto give the â€Ã‚˜Cats a four point cushion.

With about two seconds left in the game and NMU hanging onto a three point lead Hill again sank two free throws for a five pointadvantage before Moorhead wouldsink a three-pointer at the buzzer for the final margin.

Hill led the way with 18 points on the night.  Marco Volcy had 14 points to go along withhis game-high 13 rebounds.  Steve Wattsadded 10 markers.

For the game the â€Ã‚˜Cats shot 51 percent form the floor(25-49) and 37.5 percent from the three-point line (9-24).  The â€Ã‚˜Cats stilled struggled at the free throwline as they only converted 15 of their 26 throws for 57.7 percent.  NMU had an 11 rebound advantage over Moorheadby a 42 to 32 margin.  Moorheadshot 36.8 percent from the floor and 39.1 percent from three-point land (9-23).

The â€Ã‚˜Cats will continued with their three games in four daysmarathon as they face Marquette University in Milwaukee on Monday night.
