'Cats Win First Road Game Of The Season


 

OMAHA, Neb. â€Ã‚“ The â€Ã‚˜Cats won their first road game ofthe season on Saturday night at the Qwest Center Omaha by a score of 4-2.  With the win NMU is now 5-5-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the CCHA. UNO is now 2-7-1 and 2-5-1 in the conference. 

Nathan Oystrick struck first for the â€Ã‚˜Cats as he put thepuck in the back of the net at 9:46of the first period.  Pat Bateman and TomStone assisted in the goal.  TheMavericks would tie the game at one-all with a goal at 39 seconds of the secondperiod.

Justin Kinnunen scored his second goal of the season at 13:43 of the second period to give the â€Ã‚˜Catsthe lead at 2-1.  Andrew Contois and DirkSouthern assisted on the goal.  PatrickMurphy scored the game-winner at 18:04of the second period to give the â€Ã‚˜Cats the lead for good at 3-1.  Oystrick and Matt Ciancio assisted.

The Mavericks would come within one at 3-2 when they scoredat 19:13 of the third period.  Contois then put the game away with an emptynet goal, which was also on the power play, at 18:59of the final period.  Olver assisted onthe goal.

Craig Kowalski stopped 34 shots on Saturday night and wasawarded with the first star of the game honors. The â€Ã‚˜Cats held the Mavericks in check on the power play on Saturdaynight as they were scoreless in three chances. On the other hand the â€Ã‚˜Cats converted one power play opportunity inthree chances.

NMU has their declared week off next week and will be backin action Thanksgiving weekend at Notre Dame.
