ST. CLOUD, Minn. â€Ã‚“ The Northern Michigan Universitywomenâ€Ã‚™s swimming and diving team swan two meets over the weekend at St. Cloud State.  On Friday night, November 7, the Aqua-â€Ã‚˜Catsswam against St. Cloud in a dualmeet and were defeated by the home team 148-90. On Saturday the Aqua-â€Ã‚˜Cats swam a tri-meet with UW-Stevens Point and St. Cloud.  St. Cloud won the meet with 110 points, as NMU was secondwith 65 points and UW-Stevens Point was third with 64 points.

Sam Pechek won the 50-yard freestyle on Friday night with atime of 25.16.  Picking up a win in thenext event was Sarah Bartosh in the 200 I.M. as she swam the race in a time of2:14.94.  Kathie Cole then scored 231.35points on the one-meter board to win that event. 

Bartosh then came back to placesecond in the 100 butterfly (1:01.15). Lindsey Vermillion was second in the 500 freestyle as she swam the 20laps in a time of 5:37.45.  Larisa Graham picked up a second place finish in the 100breaststroke with a time of 1:12.07. 

The Aqua-â€Ã‚˜Cats picked up back-to-back wins in the 100freestyle as Pechek won her second event of the night with a time of54.50.  Shelly Ruspakka then captured the100 backstroke in a clocking of 1:03.34.

The 200 medley relay of Ruspakka, Graham, Anna Herman andKara Freebury were second in the event with a time of 1:54.51.

Saturday the Aqua-â€Ã‚˜Cats picked up wins from Pechek in the200 freestyle (1:58.50), Bartosh in the 200 butterfly (2:18.43) and Graham inthe 200 breaststroke (2:33.39).  Colecaptured the three-meter diving event by scoring 208.20 points. 

Pechek also picked up a second place finish on Saturday asshe swam a 55.26 in the 100 freestyle. Ruspakka placed second in the 200 backstroke with a clocking of2:19.89.  The 400 medley relay of Ruspakka,Graham, Bartosh and Pechek were second in the event (4:12.88).

The Aqua-â€Ã‚˜Cats will dive back into action on Friday(November 14) when they travel to Green Bay, swim in a tri-meet with UW-Green Bay and Butler.
