'Cats One Match Away From Perfect Season


 

MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Ã‚“The Northern Michigan University womenâ€Ã‚™s volleyball team is one step closer tofinishing the season with a perfect mark as they defeated Grand Valley StateUniversity on Friday afternoon in four games (30-28, 26-30, 30-12, 30-18), withthe win the â€Ã‚˜Cats captured the GLIAC North Division Title.  NMU is now 22-0 on the season overall and17-0 in the GLIAC.  The Lakers fall to22-6 and 14-2 in the conference.

No NMU team has gone through the regular seasonundefeated.  The 1993 team had one lossin the regular season.  The â€Ã‚˜Cats canaccomplish the undefeated season as they have one more game left on theschedule.  The â€Ã‚˜Cats will take on Ferris State tomorrow (Saturday, November8) at 4 p.m. in the Vandament Arena.

For the match, the â€Ã‚˜Cats had 66 kills in 164 attempts withonly 16 errors for a hitting percentage of .305.  Aimee Dewitte led the way with 19 kills in 25attempts with only one error.  She endedthe match with a hitting percentage of .720. Dewitte also had three service aces, 11 digs and four blocks (one soloand three assists). 

Andrea Smith had 16 kills in 38 attempts with four errorsfor a hitting percentage of .316 for the match. Beth Honaker added 14 kills for the â€Ã‚˜Cats.

Anne (Kinsella) Hasenstab and Kelli McCune both had 27assists for the match.  Ashley Kiel added16 digs, two service aces and two block assists in the win.

After the â€Ã‚˜Cats face the Bulldogs on Saturday they will headto the GLIAC Tournament next week in Battle Creek, Mich.
