ALLENDALE, Mich. â€Ã‚“ The Northern Michiganwomenâ€Ã‚™s cross country team was in an unusual position Friday at the MichiganIntercollegiate Championships.  The â€Ã‚˜Catshad two runners in the top 10, but as a team placed second in the event behind Michigan State. Ã‚ ÃƒÃ‚‚  The Spartans took the top four spots toscore 17 team points as the â€Ã‚˜Cats tallied 69 overall team points.

Tami Kochen was the top placer forNMU with an eighth place showing as she ran the course in a time of 22:31. Maria Stuber was 10th with a timeof 22:36.  Stephanie Howe was 12th (22:51) as JannieLahr was next about a second later for 13th place (22:52). Jane Stieber in 26th place (23:24), Tracy Wills in the 29thspot (23:27) and Jessica Kalafut at 33rd (23:35)rounded out the runners for the â€Ã‚˜Cats on the day.

The â€Ã‚˜Cats come home next weekend to compete in their ownWildcat Open (October 17), as the course will be on campus.
