Contois Leads Wildcat with Hat trick



MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University hockey team won theiropening game of the 2003-04 seasons as they hosted the University of Waterloo in an exhibition game onSaturday night at the Berry Events Center in front of 3,327 fans. Thefinal score of the contest was 7-2.


Waterlooâ€Ã‚™s GeoffRivers came out scoring in the first 20 seconds of the game to give theWildcats a surprise as the Warriors took a quick 1-0 lead on the home team.  The Wildcats remained scoreless in the firstperiod, but came out strong in the second period, answering back with fourgoals. The third period remained strong for NMU as they continued to score and holdWaterloo to two goals for the game. 


Coach Walt Kyle was pleased with the way his team performed.â€Ã‚œFirst period we just didnâ€Ã‚™t score, second period we came back and stormedâ€Ã‚˜em.  I was real happy with how theyplayed and I got to play all our guys,â€Ã‚ Kyle said.  â€Ã‚œIt really impressed me with the way Waterloocame out and played hard. They had to adjust to Olympic ice and thatâ€Ã‚™s reallyhard.â€Ã‚


Andrew Contois led the â€Ã‚˜Cats in the scoring column with ahat trick on the night.  Jamie Milam alsocontributed to the win with two goals and an assist.  Kowalski was strong between the bars making sixsaves.  Tuomas Tarkki also saw timebetween the pipes as he had five saves in his 30 plus minutes of work.


Rivers led Waterloo University with one goal and oneassist. Jeremy Elliott made 36 saves at the goal.


Coach Kyle said his team will be ready for next weekend whenthey host CCHA foe Bowling Green onOctober 10 and 11 at the Berry Events Center.
